How to use custom themes in Blogger. Customising the Blogger user interface.

 

If you are a blogger and works on Blogger, you may have wanted more out of the default theme, that is unique and for your blog or you may have seen other blog having themes which are not provided by Blogger. Blogger is a great platform for making blog and a unique theme adds more on your blog. A unique and nicely presented web page attracts more users and increase the amount of time a single user spend on your web site. In this blog post we are going to customise Blogger's default theme and use some freely available templates/themes in your blog.

When you create your blog you select from a list of themes provided by Blogger. You have very few options like Contempo, Soho, Emporio, Notable, Simple, Essential etc.

Now we are going to customise our blog and add a different theme. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Go to https://gooyaabitemplates.com and select the desired template. Select the theme that looks unique. You can choose from wide variety of theme. Once you selected the theme, click on it.
  2. Click on the download button of the theme you selected.

  3. Once the download is over go into the downloads folder and copy the downloaded zip file where you want to extract it. Now extract it.
  4. After extracting you will find a file having '.xml' extension. Check the type column for knowing the file extension. The XML file is needed after some time , so keep it.
  5. Now login to your Blogger account and select the desired blog you want to customise. And select the 'Theme' tab.
  6. Now click on the dropdown menu near your preview of currently selected theme. From the menu that appears select 'Restore' option.


  7. After clicking on the Restore option you will see a message asking to upload a theme from the computer. So click on the upload button.
  8. After clicking on upload button a window will appear, just locate the folder where you extracted the downloaded zip file and select the xml file from that directory. Open the xml file. This will upload that xml file.

  9. Now after some time you will see q message saying that the upload is successful.
Now just view your blog. You will see new theme working, you have successfully uploaded a new theme. You can also try using different themes. Note that you only needs the XML file and also keep a  backup of your blog's data so that if any error happens you can also restore your site.
